The Center
Translating Research and Policy and Practice
The Center for Studies on Aging (CSA) is a non-governmental organization led by a group of professionals committed to the promotion of evidence-based policy and practice in support of the older population in Lebanon in particular and the Arab world more generally.

Vision
The vision of CSA is Lebanon and a region in which older adults fulfill their potential in leading dignified and secure lives.

Mission
The mission of the CSA is to create a hub for research, education, policy formulation and training on aging in Lebanon and the Arab region.

Objectives
The CSA achieves its mission through three strategic tools:
  • Strategic Tool 1: Research, database, networks and conferences
    Aim: To raise awareness of aging issues in Lebanon in particular and in the wider Arab world, targeting researchers, policymakers , major donors and service providers in public, private and non-profit sectors
     
     
  • Strategic Tool 2: Human resource development
    Aim: To promote good practice in the care of older people in Lebanon and the region
     
     
  • Strategic Tool 3 : Optimizing opportunities in development plans and policies
    Aim: To promote the mainstreaming of older people’s issues in all economic, social and health development processes and programs

Age UK
HelpAge International and HelptheAged (United Kingdom), one of the leading international charity for older people, has supported the first workshop on “Aging in Lebanon: Research and Policies” in September 2007. Recommendations from the workshop have pushed the way forward towards the establishment of the CSA.

UNFPA Lebanon
UNFPA Lebanon continues to be a strong advocate of the CSA mission and activities. Throughout 2009 and 2010, UNFPA Lebanon has supported the CSA for providing evidence-based policy directives, generating knowledge and becoming a clearinghouse for research and studies in the area of aging. UNFPA has supported the development of the website, policy briefs, and, in collaboration with UNFPA Regional Office, has sponsored in 2009 the two-day Expert Group Meeting on “Aging in Arab Countries: Policy, Research and Development” that hosted over 150 national, regional and international experts and stakeholders.
